semi perimeter = (8+8+8)/2 = 12 cm

By Heron' Formula

area = √[s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)]

       =√[12×4×4×4]

       =16√3 cm²

As we know that, area = (1/2)×base×altitude

⇒16√3 = (1/2)×8×altitude

⇒altitude = 4√3 cm

Here is your answer -

Side of equilateral triangle = 8 Cm

Altitude makes Right angle on D and It Divides BC into Two Equal parts .

So ,

BD = 4 Cm

DC = 4 Cm

Now by Pythagores Theorm

In A right angle Triangle if Two from hypotenuse , Base , Perpendicular is given then we can find the one Which is not given

Applying Pythagoras Rule in Triangle ABD

(AD )^2 = (AB)^2 - (BD)^2

Let AD = x

 {x}^{2}  =  {8}^{2}  -  {4}^{2}  \\  {x}^{2}  = 64 - 16 \\  {x}^{2}  = 48 \\ x =  \sqrt{48}  \\  \sqrt{48}  = 4 \sqrt{3}  \\ so \: x = 4 \sqrt{3} cm

Hope it helps !
