 \large \tt {Let \: x+1/x \: be \: k, \: so \: that}

 \large \tt { {k}^{3}  - 3k - 110 = 0}

 \large \tt {k( {k}^{2}   - 3) = 110}

 \large \tt {k( {k}^{2}  - 3) = 5( {5}^{2}  - 3)}

So, k = 5.

It implies that x+1/x = 5
