During the 18th century, Lucknow- the capital of Awadh was a major centre of art and culture. Which is the cultural capital of UAE? Research the reasons as to why this title was given.

During 18th century the Lucknow was the major hub of art and culture. With regard to UAE, Sharjah has been considered the cultural capital.

• It represents unique Arabian lifestyle and culture.
• Sharjah is characterized by old historical monuments , mosques and souqs, which indeed adds to its glory.
• Further, from 16th century onward Sharjah has remained an important town for the Europeans , in terms of its trade, art and architecture.
• The region has myriad variety of museums, historical buildings, architecture and wildlife, due to which it was rightfully given the title of cultural capital.
• In fact, presently efforts have been made by the Government in Sharjah to preserve its heritage, old monuments and restore its value, the one it held in the past.
