When Nitric acid is added to Egg shells , it leads to formation of calcium nitrate , water and carbon dioxide gas .
CaCO₃ + HNO₃ -----> Ca(NO₃)₂ + CO₂ + H₂O
Nitric acid = HNO₃

egg shells are made of calcium carbonate. when nitric acid is added, calcium carbonate reacts with nitric acid to form calcium nitrate, carbon di oxide and water.
CaCO + 2HNO = CaNO + CO + H O
