The gravitational force is given as,

F=GR2mM

So the distance between the two objects so that the force is halved is given as,

100=GR12mM

50=GR22mM

On dividing the above two equations we get

R2=2R1

F2 = G M m / d2² ,

F1 / F2 = d2² / d1² ,

100 / 50 = (d2/d1)² ,

d2 = √2 d1 ,
