We know that Area of a shaded region = Area of inner square  + Area of the semicircle.          ---------- (1)

Given Sides of inner square = 4cm.

Given radius of semicircle = 2cm.

We know that Area of square = S^2

Given Area of inner square = 4 = 4 * 4

                                                    = 16.    --------- (2)

We know that Area of semicircle = pir^2/2

                                                        = 22/7 * (2)^2/2

                                                         = 44/7

                                                         = 6.28571 cm^2.   --------- (3)

Substitute (2) and (3) in (1), we get

Area of shaded region = 16 + 4(6.28571)

                                       = 16 + 25.1428

                                       = 41.14284cm^2.

Hope this helps!
