the horse applies force via it's legs in such a way that it would be in the direction same as the cart would move

the friction between the horseshoe and the ground result in the forward motion of horse and the cart collectively

when the carpet is beaten with a stick , momentum which is gained by the stick is transferred to the carpet and to the dust particles carpet being held stationary with hands does not moves away but the dust particles tend to follow the same direction of that of the momentum

when the bus moves in the forward direction the inertia exerted by the luggage tends to keep it at the same place even though the bus is set in motion hence to overcome the problem of luggage spelling down during the journey the luggage is advised to be tied with a rope to the roof of bus
