Pls answer it......................

You have been provided with three test tubes. One of them contains distilled water and the
other two contains an acidic solution and a basic solution, respectively. If you are given only
red litmus paper, how will you identify the content of each test tube?
2. Which gas is usually liberated when an acid react with metal? Illustrate with the help of an
example. How will you test the presence of this gas?
3. a) What happens when CO2 is passed though lime water? Write the equation of the reaction
involved.
b) What will happen if excess of CO2 is passed through the above reaction mixture? Explain
with the help of an equation.
4. Identify the gas based on the property described:
a) Gas burn itself in a blue flame when exposed to a burning splinter.
b) Gas puts off the burring splinter with a pop sound.
c) Gas turn milky white calcium carbonate solution into a transparent liquid.

Answer:

1 the test tube which changes changes red litmus to blue is basic solution.now dip the blue litmus rest of the two test tubes, the test which changes blue to red litmus is acidic solution .the test which does not change blue to red nor red to blue is distilled water.

2 hydrogen gas is liberated when acid reacts with a metal .

example; Zn +2HCL gives rise to ZnCL2 +H2

3 when co2 is passed through lime water , a white precipitate of CaCo3 is formed.

Ca(OH)2+Co2 gives rise to CaCo3 +h2.

when excess of co2 is passed through the above product, the following reaction takes place,

CaCO3+H2+CO2 GIVES RISE TO Ca(HCO3)2
