Different substances used for household work have very different pH.

  • Bleach, which is calcium hypochlorite and soap made from sodium or potassium hydroxide are typical examples of products used at home that have pH greater than 7.
  • Lemons, vinegar have a lower pH than neutrality which make them acidic and these can be used for cleaning and also to neutralize stomach acidity.
  • Drinking water (pH-7), milk (pH-6) and eggs (pH-8) are examples of substances with neutral pH of nearly 7. Any change in their pH can make them unfit for use.
