so,

(3/4 - 2/3) - x = -1/6

or, (9-8)/12 - x = -1/6

or, 1/12 - x = -1/6

or, x = 1/12 + 1/6 = (1 + 2)/12 = 3/12 = 1/4

so the subtracted from is 1/4
