The algorithm is the following:

P(x)=g(x)\times Q(x)+R(x),

Where:

  • Dividend P(x)
  • Divisor g(x)
  • Quotient Q(x)
  • Remainder R(x)

If a polynomial is divided by x-α, then its remainder is always P(\alpha).

A divisor must have at least one linear factor.
