First let's know which are called complementary angles.

Complementary angles:-

  • Two angles are complementary when they both add upto 90° angle.
  • Like if one angle is 50° then for the complementary angle, other angle should be (90° - 50°) = 40°

Given

  • Two complementary angles are in ratio of 5 : 1

To find

  • Measures of the two angles.

Solution

Let the two angles be 5y° & y°

As we know,

→ Sum of 2 complementary angles = 90°

Putting values

→ 5y° + y° = 90°

→ 6y° = 90°

→ y° = 90°/6

→ y = 15°

So, measure of one of angles is 15°

Now finding other angle

→ Other angle = 5y°

→ Other angle = 5(15)°

Other angle = 75°

Therefore,

Measures of two angles: 75° & 15°

SOLUTION :

We know that the sum of complementary angles is 90°

The given angles are in a ratio of 5 : 1

Let them be 5 x and x respectively...

So :

5x + x = 90°

=> 6x = 90°

X = 15°

First angle = 15 ° × 5 = 75°.......A1

Second angle = 15°........A2
