1. Why is it dangerous to touch a working electrical appliance with wet hands?

Ans: It is dangerous to touch a working electrical appliance with wet hands because ordinary water (or tap water) contains some mineral salts dissolved in it which contains ions. Therefore, due to the presence of ions in the water, the water acts as a conductor of electricity (since the presence of ions to conduct electricity in liquids is necessary). And if we touch an electrical appliance with wet hands, then the water may conduct electricity to our body and we may get electrocuted.

2. Which effect of electric current is utilized for detecting the flow of current through a solution:

a) When a torch bulb is used?

Ans: Heating effect of electric current

b) When a compass is used?

Ans: Magnetic effect of electric current

  • In solids, electricity is conducted by the flow of electrons.
  • In liquids, electricity is conducted by ions.

There are three effects of electric current:

  • Heating effects
  • Magnetic effects
  • Chemical effects
