1)The three friends had bought a beefsteak pie at Marlow, while they were stocking up the boat with groceries and they decided to sit by the backwaters of Marsh stream to eat and relax. As the friends sat down with their basket of food, Harris was sitting with the pie trying to carve it. He asked J and George for a fork, but as soon as they turned around and back, they realise that Harrris was gone and nowhere to be found. The disappearance befuddled them, and they began to lament the fact that Harris had the pie with him. when he disappeared. Suddenly they saw Harris's head rise up from between the tall grass, and it was then they figured that he had apparently fallen into a gully, which was shielded by the grass and thought that the other two friends had made him sit on the spot on purpose, the pie was ruined, but the incident surely made for a good laugh.
2)Three men in a boat is an amusing and comic travelogue in which the author has blended humour with narration of the voyage of the three friends on the Thames. As a travelogue it is an interesting commentary of the places that lie on the banks of river between Kingston and Oxford.
The narrator presents their preparation for the journey, reaching the boat after a short journey by train from Waterloo to Kingston and their experience during the day and night
Thus the novel is an interesting travelogue a the novelist blends the narration of the journey with comical, serious and light conversation of the friends.
3)Jerome felt very bad to see notice-boards on trees. He wished if he could tear each one down and hammer it over the head of the man who had placed it up. He wanted to kill that man and then bury him and put the board up over the grave as a tombstone. However, Harris reacted even in a more strongly manner. He did not like people who placed noticeboards on trees. He said that he felt even worse than Jerome. He not only wanted to kill the man who caused the board to be put up but he also wished to slaughter the whole of his family and all his friends and relations, and then burn down his house.
4)Montmorency was the narrator, Jerome’s, pet dog. According to me, Montmorency was an angel too good for this world but somehow kept back from the mankind. This was because Montmorency was not a gentle dog at all. He was violent and fond of action. His ambition in life was to get in the way of others. If he felt particularly not wanted in a particular situation, then he believed in being a perfect nuisance so as to make people mad. If he was able to have things thrown at his head, then he felt that his day was not wasted.
Hope this helps you
