Answer:

Hey there! Here's your answer:

Explanation:

i.) ANS:

If we put tartaric acid in blue litmus paper , the paper will turn red. The pigment in blue litmus reacts with H+ ions and changes chemically so the bonds are 'tuned' to reflect a longer wavelength of light to appear red to our eyes.

We know that a soap is a basic in nature. Since, soap is basic in nature the     colour of the litmus paper changes to blue. If you dip a blue litmus paper in the soap solution, the colour of the litmus paper does not change its colour because it is already blue colour.

ii.) ANS:

As it is acidic, It will not change its colour and nothing will happen to the paper. The reason is when red litmus paper comes in contact with an acidic or neutral substance, it will remain red itself.

When soap is dissolved in water, the solution is alkaline in nature due to the formation of alkali NaOH or KOH. The solution changes the colour of red litmus to blue. Since, soapy water is alkaline, red litmus paper turns into blue litmus paper.

iii.) ANS:

The solution which you mixed both gives a colourless solution. We all know that phenolphthalein gives no colour when added to an acidic solution. Simply, There will no change of colours.

Phenolphthalein is often used as an indicator in acid - base titrations. It is slightly soluble in water. There is no change in it when it is added to acid but when phenolphthalein is added to a base, it turns bright pink. Soap solution is a base, so when phenolphthalein is added to it, it will turn pink.
