Each side of square flower bed = 3.8 m

Area of square flower bed = 14.44 m^2

It is extended by digging a strip of 50 cm

Side of extended bed =3.8 m + 50 cm +50cm = 3.8 m + 1 m = 4.8 m

New area = 23.04 m^2

Increase in area = 23.04 - 14.44 = 8.6 m^2
