[b] Melting is a process that causes a substance to change from a solid to a liquid. Melting occurs when the molecules of a solid speed up enough that the motion overcomes the attractions so that the molecules can move past each other as a liquid.

[c]If, after a collision, a particular molecule at the water's surface has sufficient speed to break into the air, it takes its energy (heat) with it. That's heat lost from the liquid, which therefore cools, and that is why water evaporating from our skin gets cooler.
