Step-by-step explanation:

=> y^2 + 5y + 6

Splitting the middle term(5,with y) in such a way so that product of those parts will be equal to the product of 6 and 1( constant and term with y^2).

=> y^2 + (2 + 3)y + 6

=> y^2 + 2y + 3y + 6

=> y(y + 2) + 3(y + 2)

=> (y + 2)(y + 3)

2:

=> x^2 + 2x - 15

=> x^2 + (5 - 3)x- 15

=> x^2 + 5x - 3x - 15

=> x(x + 5) - 3(x + 5)

=> (x + 5)(x - 3)

3:

=> a^2 - 7a + 12

=> a^2 - (4 + 3)a + 12

=> a^2 - 4a - 3a + 12

=> a(a - 4) - 3(a - 4)

=> (a - 4)(a - 3)
