Answer:

x = 2

y = 6

Step-by-step explanation:

  • It is given that digit at units place is twice the digits at tens place , meaning ,  y = 2x [where x is the tens place and y is units place].
  • Now it is also given that if 27 is added , its digits get interchanged , meaning , 10x + y + 27 = 10y + x [the digits are interchanged] or

         27 = 10y - y + x - 10x

         27 = 9y - 9x

         27 = 9(y - x)

[divide by 9 on both sides]

         3 = y - x

  • So the equations given are -

         y = 2x   (1)

         3 = y - x    (2)

now all we have to is to find x and y.

  substitute (1) in (2) ,

         3 = 2x - x

        3 = x

Now we got that x = 2 , therefore y = 2x = 2(3) = 6
