Gɪᴠᴇɴ :-

  • Marked Price (MP) of Article = Rs.10000
  • VAT is 3% More than the Discount(D) % .
  • Customer Pays = Rs.10,170 for the Article.

Tᴏ Fɪɴᴅ :-

  • VAT Amount ?

ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇᴘᴛ ᴜsᴇᴅ :-

  • Discount is always applied on marked price.
  • VAT is applied on Selling Price .

Sᴏʟᴜᴛɪᴏɴ :-

Let us Assume That, Discount % is x.

Than,

SP = {MP * (100 - D%)} / 100

→ SP = (10000 * (100 - x))/100

→ SP = Rs.100(100-x) .

Now,

SP = Rs.100(100 - x).

→ VAT = (x + 3)%

→ Customer Pay = { SP * (100 + VAT%) } / 100

→ customer Pay = { 100(100 - x) * (100 + x + 3) } / 100

→ customer Pay = Rs.(100 - x)(103 + x)

A/q,

(100 - x)(103 + x) = 10170

→ 10300 + 100x - 103x - x² = 10170

→ x² + 3x - 130 = 0

→ x² + 13x - 10x - 130 = 0

→ x(x + 13) - 10(x + 13) = 0

→ (x + 13)(x - 10) = 0

→ x = (-13) & 10 . ( - ve Not Possible).

Therefore ,

Discount % = 10% .

→ VAT % = 10 + 3 = 13%.

______________

So,

SP = 100(100 - 10) = 100 * 90 = Rs.9000 .

VAT = 13% of 9000 = (9000*13)/100 = Rs.1170. (Ans.)

Hence, The VAT Amount is Rs.1170.
