Perimeter of both the rectangle is asked , we just have to subtract the overlapping area from that, as it is coming in both perimeter ..

Side of square = Side of rectangle - 7

                         = 12 - 7

                         = 5 inch.

Then,

Perimeter of entire region will be:

=> 2 * 2(12 + 9) - 4 * 5

=> 2 * 2(21) - 20

=> 84 - 20

=> 64 inches.

Hence, Perimeter of the entire region is 64 inches.
