pls explain breathing is rhythmic whereas exchange of gases is continous... pls dont copy paste from google

Breathing is a complete cycle which involves the processes of inhalation and exhalation of air. A normal person completes 12 breathing cycles in 1 minute of rhythmic breathing. The Thoracic Cavity expands and contracts when the air is inhaled or exhaled making a rhythm.


Wheres exchange of gases is a continuous process as it is carried between the blood and every cell. Gases are exchanged through diffusion. As lungs pump blood continuously into the body the cells also need oxygen. So for that, the oxygen in the blood pumped by the lungs carries oxygen along with other gases. It diffuses into the cells and this process continues without any break.
