What are haploid and
diploid cells?
How many chromatids they have??
Answers
Explanation:
Cells with only one set of chromosomes are known as haploid cells. They are denoted by the letter 'n.' Some species, such as fungus, can live haplontic lives. These cells, on the other hand, are normally the gametes in higher species. Meiosis is the process by which diploid cells are converted to haploid cells during gametogenesis.
Diploid cells have two sets of chromosomes. Majorly all organisms have a diplontic life (haplontic only in gamete formation.)
Every chromosome have two sister chromatids.
If we take an example of X organisms having 11 chromosomes.
n = number of chromosomes.
Then,
Diploid = 2n
= 2*11 = 22 chromosomes.
Chromatids = 2*number of chromosomes. = 2*22 = 44 chromatids.
Haploid = n
= 1*11 = 11 chromosomes.
Chromatids = 2*number of chromosomes. = 2*11 = 11 chromatids.
