First of all 3R & 6R in parallel

If we connect the resistors in parallel, the Re is given by:

1/Re=1/R1+1/R2+1/R3+…+1/Rn

1/Re₁ = 1/3 + 1/6

∴Re₁ = 2R

Now 2R & Re₁ are in series

If you connect them in series,

Re= R1+R2+R3+…..+Rn

so,

Re₂ = 2 + 2

∴Re₂ = 4R

Now Re₂, 2R & R in parallel

So, 1/Re₃ = 1/4 + 1/2 + 1

Re₃ = 4/7 R
