(a+b)^2 - (a-c)^2
= (a^2 + b^2 + 2ab) - (a^2 + b^2 - 2ab)
= a^2 + b^2 + 2ab - a^2 - b^2 + 2ab
= 2ab + 2ab
= 4ab
= (a^2 + b^2 + 2ab) - (a^2 + b^2 - 2ab)
= a^2 + b^2 + 2ab - a^2 - b^2 + 2ab
= 2ab + 2ab
= 4ab
