so it is world wide accepted unit .

definition of kg in physics:

⏩the mass of cylinder made of platinum- iridium alloy kept at international bureau of weights and measure is defined as 1 kg.

in some countries for measuring quantities other units are also used.

conversion :

1 pound = 0.454kg
