let the number be x

given,

$(x - \frac{2}{9} ) \times 9 = 7x$

$\frac{9x - 2}{9} = \frac{7x}{9}$

$\frac{9x}{9} - \frac{2}{9} = \frac{7x}{9}$

$\frac{9x}{9} - \frac{7x}{9} = \frac{2}{9}$

$\frac{2x}{9} = \frac{2}{9}$

$x = 1$
