Number of students =x

2x boys and 3x girls

average = sum of marks / number of boys or girls

73= sum of marks / 2x

73*2x=sum of data(boys) ------------(1)

similarly ,

average = sum of marks / number of girls

98= sum of marks / 3x

98*3x=sum of marks (girls) ------------(2)

total average of class = (1)+(2)/sum of all students

=73*2x+98*3x/5x

=146x+294x/5x

=x(146+294)/5x

=440/5       (x in numerator and denominator is cancelled)

=88

THEREFORE MEAN OF WHOLE CLASS IS 88
