Answer:

14 years,12 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present age of A be 'x' and B be 'y' years.

According to the given condition,

x = 2y - 5.   --- (1)

Their present ages:

A = x + 5

B = y + 5

After Three years:

A = (x + 5) + 3

  = x + 8.

B = (y + 5) + 3

  = y + 8.

Three years from now, one third of B will be 12 years less than A age.

(1/3)(y + 8) = (x+8) - 12

y + 8 = 3(x + 8) - 12

y + 8 = 3x - 12

y - 3x = -20

-3x + y = -20

3x - y = 20   --- (2)

Substitute (1) in (2).

3(2y - 5) - y = 20

6y - 15 - y = 20

5y = 35

y = 7

Substitute y = 7 in (2), we get

3x - y = 20

3x - 7 = 20

3x = 27

x = 9

Hence:

x + 5 = 14 years.

y + 5 = 12 years.

Therefore, present age of A = 14 years and B = 12 years.

Hope it helps you
