Advantages and Disadvantages of Social Media:-

We all are going through the tricky dusk of the corona pandemic. At this very instant in time, everything was supposed to come to a weird halt. Do you know what has kept the normal lifestyles still alive? Exactly, it's our Social Media. Every item in this universe has both good and bad points to be noted down. All that makes a difference, in the end, is absolute usage by consumers.

When the school buildings were closed, the only thing that allowed us to keep learning was our social media. E-Books were helpful during lockdowns when we were not able to buy required books from the shops. WhatsApp groups helped several peole all over India to stay connected with each other. It helped schools to make it possible to share notes and assignments. Many groups among Facebook are related to study that provides good study materials to students which benefits them a lot. YouTube educational channels provide many recorded study materials for students of different age groups. The best thing about these videos is, they are interactive and friendly which enables students enjoy learning it this way.

When we surf the internet, we find a wide range of information present. We have increased resources to keep the learning going on even now. But, the fact is that not everything online is educational. Social networking sites like- WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram can be addicting which is not good for students. Communicating through these social media isn't a good choice for students if they do it for a long period.

According to me, social media is actually not a boon or even a ban. It depends upon how a human use it and implements upon their lives.

Hello !

Advantages :-

  • Efficiency \implies Online learning offers teachers an efficient way to deliver lessons to students. Online learning has a number of tools such as videos, PDFs, podcasts, and teachers can use all these tools as part of their lesson plans. By extending the lesson plan beyond traditional textbooks to include online resources, teachers are able to become more efficient educators.

  • Accessibility Of Time And Place \impliesAnother advantage of online education is that it allows students to attend classes from any location of their choice. It also allows schools to reach out to a more extensive network of students, instead of being restricted by geographical boundaries. Additionally, online lectures can be recorded, archived, and shared for future reference. This allows students to access the learning material at a time of their comfort.

  • Thus, online learning offers students the accessibility of time and place in education.

Disadvantages:-

  • Inability To Focus On Screens\implies For many students, one of the biggest challenges of online learning is the struggle with focusing on the screen for long periods of time. With online learning, there is also a greater chance for students to be easily distracted by social media or other sites. Therefore, it is imperative for the teachers to keep their online classes crisp, engaging, and interactive to help students stay focused on the lesson.

  • Technology Issues \implies Another key challenge of online classes is internet connectivity. While internet penetration has grown in leaps and bounds over the past few years, in smaller cities and towns, a consistent connection with decent speed is a problem. Without a consistent internet connection for students or teachers, there can be a lack of continuity in learning for the child. This is detrimental to the education process.
