Let's consider a pole standing on the ground. As we know, the Sun beams parallelly.
Two similar right triangles appear. The base is the ground, the height is the length of the pole, and the hypotenuse is the trace of the shadow.
In similar triangles, the ratio of sides is always equal. Let us keep it in mind.
In the first triangle,
- the pole is 560 cm long
- the shadow is 320 cm long
In another triangle,
- the pole is 1050 cm long.
The answer for (I) is 6 m.
In the first triangle,
- the pole is 560 cm long
- the shadow is 320 cm long
In another triangle,
- the shadow is 500 cm long.
The answer for (II) is 8 m 75 cm.
Hope this helps! Keep learning!
5m 60cm = 560cm
3m 20cm =320cm
Now,
A pole measured 560cm casts a shadow 320cm long then
A pole measured 1cm can cast a shadow of length =320/560 =4/7
now a pole measured 10m 50cm(1050cm) can cast a shadow of length = 4/7 × 1050 =600cm (6m)
Now,
Let the height of pole which casts a shadow of 5m(500cm) long be y.
Then, y × 4/7 = 500cm
= y = 500 × 7/4 = 875cm(8.75m)
