Answer:

Area of ABCDE= 41 cm^2

Step-by-step explanation:

Construction: Join BE.(BE=CD=8cm)

Finding the area of ABE using heron's formula

s=a+b+c/2   (a,b,c are sides of the triangle)(s = semiperimeter)

s=5+5+8/2

s=18/2

s=9

A=√s(s-a) (s-b) (s-c) (heron's formula)

A=√ 9(9-5) (9-5) (9-8)

A= 9(3) (3) (1)

A=81

A=9 cm^2

Finding the area of rectangle BEDC:

4 x 8=32cm^2  (Area of rectangle=length x breadth)

Adding both the areas:

9 cm^2+32 cm^2= 41 cm^2
