Given:

  • Selling Article at rs.4550
  • Loss percentage = 9%

Find:

  • What percentage would be gain or loss by selling it for rs.4825

Solution:

Let, the cost price be rs. x

Now,

 \sf Loss = 9\% \: of \: C.P.

 \sf Loss =  \dfrac{9}{100}   \times  x

</strong>\underline{\boxed{\color{green}<strong> \sf Loss =  \dfrac{9x}{100</strong>}}<strong>}

Given, S.P. = rs.4550

C.P. - LOSS = 4550

  \sf\to x -  \dfrac{9x}{100} = 4550

  \sf\to  \dfrac{100x - 9x}{100} = 4550

  \sf\to  \dfrac{91x}{100} = 4550

  \sf\to  x= \cancel{ 4550} \times  \dfrac{100}{ \cancel{91}}

  \sf\to  x= 50 \times 100

 </strong>\underline{\boxed{\color{blue}<strong> \sf\to  x= rs.5000</strong>}}<strong>

So, C.P. of the article is rs.5000

Now, S.P. = rs.4825

C.P. > S.P.

So, Loss = C.P. - S.P.

 \sf \implies 5000 - 4825

 \sf \implies rs.175

 \sf \therefore Loss\% =  \dfrac{Loss}{C.P.}  \times 100

 \sf \implies  \dfrac{175}{5000}  \times 100

 \sf \implies  \dfrac{175}{50 \cancel{00}}  \times  1\cancel{00}

 \sf \implies  \dfrac{175}{50 }

 \sf \implies  3.5\%

Loss = 3.5%

Hence, 3.5% would be loss by selling it for rs.4825
