  >> Whats ozone layer ?

The ozone layer is a deep layer in the stratosphere, encircling the Earth, that has large amounts of ozone in it. The layer shields the entire Earth from much of the harmful ultraviolet radiation that comes from the sun.

 >> Distribution of ozone in the stratosphere

The Ozone layer is actually located in the stratosphere in a region that is 10 to 50 km above the Earth. The distribution of total ozone over the Earth varies with location on timescales that range from daily to seasonal. The variations are caused by large-scale movements of stratospheric air and the chemical production and destruction of ozone.
Total ozone is generally lowest at the equator and highest in polar regions.

 >> Depletion of ozone

When CFCs reach the upper atmosphere they are first degraded by the very high energy of UV (ultra-violet) radiation. Degradation of CFC leaves a free chlorine atom. The basic cause of ozone layer depletion is that this chlorine atom then breaks upozone molecules. Ozone then disappears.
