In Chemistry, an aerosol is a colloidal suspension of particles dispersed in air or gas.
In general, an aerosol is a substance enclosed under pressure and released as a fine spray by means of a propellant gas.
Aerosols affect our environment in a major way. They have negative and positive effects.
They play an important role in cloud formation. They have a cooling effect that counters the effect of greenhouse gases. These cause a decrease in earth's ability to absorb solar radiation. This eventually leads to colder temperatures. They are also the cause of many lung-related diseases. Synthetic aerosols do have many harmful effects, all of them cannot be discussed here. HFCs represent a small portion of total greenhouse gas emissions, but they trap thousands of times as much heat in the atmosphere carbon dioxide.Good news: If your air-conditioner is working properly, it won’t release HFCs into the atmosphere. Some HFCs are released during the manufacturing process, if your air-conditioner or refrigerator has a leak, or when you throw a unit away, possibly causing some molecules to escape, especially if it’s disposed of improperly on proper disposal
The United States has also put regulations in place to phase out the use of HFCs in other areas like aerosols and building foam.
