Given,

  • d = 10 cm = 0.1 m
  • friction coefficient(μ) = 0.5
  • m = 5 kg
  • g = 10 m\s²

(a) The work done by friction by which is in the opposite direction of motion is given by :

\boxed{\bold{\omega_{fr} = -m\times g\times \mu_k \times d}}

\bold{\implies \omega_{fr} = -5\times 10\times 0.5\times 0.1}

\boxed{\bold{\therefore Frictional\:Force\:(\omega_{fr})=-2.5\:J}}

(b) If the box moves at constant speed, So \bold{\omega_h} is given by,

\boxed{\bold{\omega_h=\omega_{net}-\omega_{fr}}}

\implies\bold{\omega_h=0-(-2.5)}

\boxed{\bold{\therefore Horizontal\:Force\:(\omega_{h})=2.5\:J}}

Hence Option D is the correct answer..
