Information about different crops of Madhya Pradesh

The state is a large producer of soybean and wheat. Sharbati variety of famous wheat is grown in Sehore, Vidisha and Ashok Nagar districts, and in some parts of Bhopal and Hoshangabad. Madhya Pradesh leads in the production of gram, linseed, green pea, garlic and coriander. Soybean and wheat are the two main crops grown in the state with around 25.4 per cent and 23.7 per cent of GCA devoted to the crops respectively. Wheat is the major crop grown during the rabi season and it is intercropped with gram, while in the kharif season, MP mostly grows soybean.

The major crops can all be divided into four main categories depending on their usage.

1) Food Crops (Wheat, Maize, Rice, Millets and Pulses etc.)

2) Cash Crops (Sugarcane, Tobacco, Cotton, Jute and Oilseeds etc.)

3) Plantation Crops (Coffee, Coconut, Tea, and Rubber etc.)

4) Horticulture crops (Fruits and Vegetables)
