Let x = tan A….(i)

Now,

f(x) = tan-1[(1 – x)/(1 + x)]

= tan-1[(1 – tan A)/(1 + tan A)]

= tan-1[tan(π/4 – A)]

= π/4 – A

= π/4 – tan-1(x) {from (i)}

Given that 0 ≤ x ≤ 1.

f(0) = π/4 – tan-1(0)

= π/4 – 0

= π/4 (maximum)

f(1) = π/4 – tan-1(1)

= π/4 – π/4

= 0 (minimum)
