An atom contains equal number of protons and electrons .. so as it is given that the number of protons are 16 so there are 16 electrons also..

Now look at its ionic species it has 2- charge( when the charge is - ve it means it has received electrons). As it is given 2- it means it has received 2 electrons...

So total number of electrons are 16+2=18...
