X -2Y = 90......(1)
3X -Y = 40......(2)
From equation 1 we get,
X -2Y = 90
X = 90+2Y.......(3)
Putting the value of X in equation (2)
3X -Y = 40
3 × (90+2Y) -Y = 40
270 +6Y -Y = 40
5Y = 40-270
5Y = -230
Y = -230/5
Y = -46
Putting the value of Y in equation (3)
X => 90+2Y = 90 +2 × -46
X => 90 + (-92) = 90-92 = -2.
Hence,
X = -2 and Y = -46
