Let the swimming pool total capacity be 100 barrels,

Let discharge from pipe 1 per hour be X barrel/hour

Similarly from second pipe be Y barrel/hour

Now 12X + 12Y=100

And 4X + 9Y=50

solving we get X=5, Y=10/3

Time taken = total volume/ (discharge rate or velocity)

Hence from pipe 1 it is 100/X= 20 hours

And for pipe 2 it is 100/(10/3)=300/10=30 Hours

20, 30 Hours
