Answer:

  • X=4/3
  • y=3/2

Step-by-step explanation:

let \:  \frac{1}{x - 1}  = a \: and \:  \frac{1}{y - 1} = b

so, 2a-b=4. ......(1)

4a-b=10. ....(2)

add (1) and (2).

4a-b=10 - 2a-b=4. (4a-2a=2a, (-b)-(-b)= 0, 10-4=6)

=> 2a=6

=> a=6÷2

=> a= 3

put a in (2)

4(3)-b=10

=>12-b=10

=>12-10=b

=> 2=b.

since,

 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  a =  \frac{1}{x - 1}  \\  =  > 3 =  \frac{1}{x - 1 }  \\  =  > 3(x - 1) = 1  \\  =  > 3x - 3 = 1 \\  =  > 3x = 1 + 3 \\  =  > x =  \frac{4}{3}  \\  \\ also \: ...b =  \frac{1}{y - 1} \\  =  > 2 =  \frac{1}{y - 1}  \\  =  > 2(y - 1) = 1 \\  =  > 2y - 2 = 1 \\  =  > 2y = 1 + 2 \\  =  > y =  \frac{3}{2}
