Given:
ABCD is a parallelogram.
To show that AE = AD
We know that when all vertices of a quadrilateral is on circumference of circle then it is known as cyclic quadrilateral.
So, ABCE is a cyclic Quadrilateral.
In parallelogram ABCD,
∠ABC = ∠CDA ( opposite angles of parallelogram are equal )
In Quadrilateral ABCE
∠ABC + ∠AEC = 180° ( Sum of opposite angle of cyclic quadrilateral is 180° )
⇒ ∠AEC = 180° - ∠ABC .................(1)
From figure,
∠ADE + ∠ADC = 180° ( linear pair )
∠ADE = 180° - ∠ADC
∠ADE = 180° - ∠ABC ( from above ) .....................(2)
So, from (1) and (2)
∠AEC = ∠ADE
In ΔAED,
∠AED = ∠ADE
⇒ AE = AD ( sides opposite of equal angles are equal )
Hence Proved.
