➵ \: (x +  \frac{1}{x} ) \:  =  \: 5

On squaring both the sides :)

➵ {x}^{2}  + 2x \times  \frac{1}{x}  +   \frac{1}{ {y}^{2} }   = 25

➵ {x}^{2}  + 2 \:  +  \:   \frac{1}{ {y}^{2} }   \:  =  \: 25

➵ {x}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {y}^{2} }  = 25 \:  -  \: 2

➵ {x}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {y}^{2} }  \:  =  \: 23

  • Hence the required answer is 23.
