When two dice are thrown, the number of possible outcomes = 6^2 = 36 
P(doublet) = P(A) = 6/36 
(1,1) (2,2) (3,3) (4,4) (5,5) 6,6).... 6 outcomes favourable 
P(total of 9) = P(B) = 4/36 
(3,6) (4,5) (5,4) (6,3) .... 4 outcomes favourable 
According to the Addition Theorem of Probability, when the events are mutually exclusive 
P(A U B) = P(A) + P(B) 
= 6/36 + 4/36 
= 10/36
