 {x}^{2}  -  {(x - 7)}^{2}  = 77 \\ 14x  -  49 = 77 \\ 14x = 126 \\ x = 9  \\ so \: numbers \: are \: 9..2

let the numbers be x and y
let x be smaller number
y=x+7
 {x}^{2}  + 77 =  {y}^{2}
 {x}^{2}  +  77 =  {(x + 7)}^{2}
 {x }^{2}  + 77 =  {x}^{2}  + 49 + 14x
28 = 14x
x = 2
y = 9
