( side of diamond) ^2 = (1.2)^2 + (4)^2. ( by Pythagoras theorem)

=> ( side) ^2 = 17.44

since 17.44 = (1.2)^2 + (4)^2 of the triangle of the diamond also,

the 4 angles at the centre are = 90 degrees

=> area = 1/2 x base x height

= 1/2 x 1.2 x 4

= 2.4 m^2

there are 4 such triangles in the diamond,

so area of diamond = 2.4 x 4

= 9.6 m^2

Hence, Irfan painted the diamond of area 9.6 m^2

Area painted by Ishan = area of 4 outer triangles ( triangles outside the diamond)
