Here,
M = 500 g = 1/2 kg
U = 50 m/s
V = 0 m/s. (as the hammer stops after hitting the nail)
T = 0.015 sec

Then, we have to find,
F = ?

Now, by first equation of motion,

v = u + at
 =  > a =  \frac{v - u}{t}
 =  > a =  \frac{0 - 50}{0.015}
 =  > a =  \frac{ - 50 \times 1000}{15}
 =  > a =  \frac{ - 5000}{15}
 =  > a =  - 333.33
Hence, the acceleration of hammer is 333 m/s². (approx)

We know that,
F = ma
 =  > F =  \frac{1}{2}  \times  - 333
 =  > F =  - 165.5
Hence, force applied by hammer on nail is 165.5 N

Now, According to third law of motion,
any action has equal and opposite reaction. Therefore, the nail also exerts a force of 165.5 N on the hammer but in opposite direction.

That's your answer.

Hope it'll help.. :-D
