Liquid 1

Let ,

M 1 be the mass of liquid

p 1 be the density of the liquid

V 1 = V be the volume of the liquid

We know that,

Density = mass / volume

D 1 = M 1 / V

M 1 = V D 1 ....(1)

Liquid 2

Let ,

M 2 be the mass of liquid

p 2be the density of the liquid

V 1 = 2V be the volume of the liquid

D 2 = M 2 / 2 V

M 2 = D 2 (2 V ). ...(2)

Density of the mixture

= Total mass / volume

= M 1 + M 2 / V + 2 V

= V D 1 + D 2 (2 V ) / 3 V

= V ( D 1 + D 2 ) / 3 (V )

= D 1 +2 D 2 / 3

Density of the mixture = D 1 +2 D 2 / 3
