Let the length of the rectangle be x cm and breadth be y cm

According to the first condition,

Perimeter = 2 (l+b)

40 = 2(x+y)

40 = 2x + 2y

20 = x + y............... (i)

According to the second condition,

x = 2y + 2

(because the length is 2 more than double the breadth)

Therefore,

x = 2y +2

x - 2y =2.............. (ii)

Solving the the equations (i) and (ii),

 \: \: \: \: \: \: \: x - 2y = 2 \\ - \: \: x + y = 20

____________________

0x - 3y = - 18

y = - 18/-3

y = 6

Substituting this in eqn (i),

x + y = 20

x + 6 = 20

x = 20 - 6

x = 14

Therefore length = 14cm and breadth = 6 cm

Hope this helps
